Their reasons for visiting the spa hotel high up in the mountains are very different – but something all the characters in Tim Krohn’s Vals by Night have in common is that their stay there will change their lives.
There’s Aiuoletta and Luca, a teenage couple who are freshly in love and who discover at the reception that they only have enough money to stay two nights. They take a cheap room in the village, sneak into the hotel and spend an adventurous night there that forces them to tell their first white lie and drastically changes their relationship.
There’s the failed trumpeter who earns a living as a bar musician, and discovers a place in the hotel’s machine room where he can finally create his very own sound. And then there’s the young woman who is unintentionally pregnant, and the elderly writer who in the face of his longed-for death reverts from being a cynic to an astonished boy.
Tim Krohn’s stories embrace all aspects of human life. They are all set in the same place, and over each story the sky spreads out its starry firmament.
